Antenatal Care

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Pregnancy – the nine month miracle brings excitement as well as stressful moments, especially if this is the first time if you are expecting a baby. It is an exciting journey full of fascinating milestones, physical transformations that will amaze you, and a sense of anticipation that grows as the big day approaches.

If you have booked with us for the pregnancy care, you will have your first visit at 8-12 weeks gestation. At this visit a full medical history and obstetric history is obtained. This visit gives you an opportunity to answer all your questions from your obstetrician, review the blood tests and ultrasound (dating and nuchal translucency scan) reports and discuss the future management of pregnancy.

Subsequent visits are then every 4 weeks until 28 weeks, then fortnightly from 28 weeks and weekly visits from 36 weeks. At each visit, your blood pressure will be checked and the abdomen palpated to assess the growth and presentation of the foetus and the fetal heart beat heard with the Doppler machine. You will be weighed at each visit as a guide to weight gain during the pregnancy which should be restricted to about 12 kilograms if possible. Bring your antenatal card every visit to record the above details.
