A Personalised Approach to Understanding Female Fertility
Clear Answers, Thoughtful Care, and the Right Tests for You
At our fertility practice, we understand that every woman’s situation is unique. Fertility testing is never a one-size-fits-all process — we tailor each evaluation to your personal history, symptoms, and family-building goals. We begin with the simplest
assessments and only recommend further tests if they are truly needed.
Step 1 – Your Initial Consultation
We start by getting to know you and your story.
Medical history – We discuss your general health, menstrual history, previous pregnancies, surgeries, and any family history that may help us identify possible causes of difficulty conceiving.
Physical examination – A careful examination helps us look for signs of hormone imbalance or health conditions that might affect fertility.
Step 2 – Hormone C Blood Testing
Hormones play a central role in ovulation and conception. We may check:
- Ovarian function — Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), Luteinising Hormone (LH) and estrogen levels
- Thyroid function — Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH)
- Pituitary health — Prolactin levels (to rule out certain benign tumours)
Step 3 – Checking for Ovulation
Regular ovulation is key to pregnancy. We can assess this by:
- Reviewing your menstrual cycle patterns (absent periods often mean no ovulation; irregular cycles can signal inconsistent ovulation)
- Blood testing for progesterone about three weeks into your cycle — a reliable indicator that ovulation has occurred
- Occasionally, testing for your LH surge just before ovulation
(Tracking basal body temperature is less accurate and not usually recommended anymore.)
Step 4 – Assessing the Uterus C Fallopian Tubes
Fertility problems can sometimes be due to structural changes or blocked fallopian tubes.
We may recommend:
- Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) — an X-ray with dye to outline the uterus and check if the tubes are open
- Hysteroscopy — a thin camera passed through the cervix to look directly inside the uterus; allows us to treat certain issues during the same procedure
- Transvaginal ultrasound — a detailed scan of the uterus and ovaries to detect fibroids, cysts, or other changes
- Laparoscopy — minimally invasive “keyhole” surgery to examine the pelvic organs and treat conditions like endometriosis or scar tissue, while also checking if tubes are open
Step 5 – Genetic Testing (If Needed)
If there’s reason to believe fertility issues are linked to genetic or chromosomal factors, a simple blood test can be arranged.
We also offer genetic counselling to explain results, discuss potential impacts on pregnancy, and explore ways to reduce the chance of passing conditions to a child.
